Who to see at Art Basel? Relax, bro. Here are some recommendations…

Alas, Art Basel has arrived. This week is a great opportunity to see some great bands you wouldn’t ordinarily be treated to. So get ready, put on your sweaters, post that Facebook status, and get those game faces on. You’re in for a swell time.

Thursday. What a day. Normally, it’s the ugly step-child of Friday, but not this week. So ,Thursday, how’s it looking? For starters, Grand Central is bringing in some heavy hitters with special guests James Murphy (DFA) and Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem), as well as a kick-ass live performance from Black Lips. The event is free and RSVP only, so do yourself a favor and make that happen. If that doesn’t tickle your pickle (no pun intended), Yacht will be performing at Electric Pickle. Tickets will be available at the door, just in case you were too lazy to get your pre-sales, you lazy bum.

Oh, Friday. How I’ve longed for your sweet caress. Poplife will be hosting Twin Shadow, thee Twin Shadow, with a live performance in Wynwood (27th Street and 2nd Ave). The event is also RSVP only. If you can’t catch Twin Shadow, head over to The Fillmore Miami Beach to check out Yelle, alongside Housse de Racket. These are two great bands that definitely should not be missed.

Two words: Basel Castle. If you’re going to make it to any event this year, head to this one on Saturday. The Rapture will be tearing the stage a new one with a live DJ set, along with live performances from Penguin Prison, Yelawolf, and Tamara Sky, just to name a few. The event is free with RSVP, but if you’re not the patient type, you can skip the line with the purchase of a $10 ticket. What beats that? Could I interest you in some Miami Horror? Why, yes, please! They will be performing at Electric Pickle, with a special set from DJ Harvey. Tickets are $35.

Now I know it’s Sunday, and you’re all tired, but it’s Art Basel. So get lost. Yes, literally. Electric Pickle will be hosting Get Lost Art Basel with a cluster of performers, including Miami’s own, Danny Daze. If you were privileged enough to be invited, Penguin Prison will be performing at Ricochet Lounge on the beach. If you weren’t lucky enough to get invited, I would head there anyway. Penguin Prison is pretty dope.

I hope these recommendations have helped. Go out there and support all that delicious music.  For Jolt Radio, this is Cousin John signing off. Oh and buy me a beer or something if you see me out. I love me some beverages.
