Craig, Andres, and Christian would always like to jam and make noise like any one else. During the summer of 2009, Christian had left to Colombia for about a month. His house was like their “Eric’s Basement” so they found themselves lacking a place to hang out. One day at Andres’s house, Craig played a little tune on guitar while they were watching Andres’s little cousin’s play Rock Band. Andres joined in on his guitar to pass the time and after a few minutes they stopped and said “Hey, that’s actually not awful”. Low and behold we met up again with Christian when he finally returned and showed him. Instead of the expected disregard to the song, Christian actually got excited and said he wanted in; so then there were three.
Christian plays drums and has some golden pipes so it was a sweet deal. However, in order to be able to play more intricate drum patterns, they would need another singer. While at a talent show, the three found Diego playing piano and singing a Billy Joel song. They have always been acquainted with Diego so they asked him over for a practice. Diego fit in better than any of them had ever hoped AND the fact he played piano made him quite the double whammy.
They did not want a we’re-a-bunch-of-rebellious-teens type of band name nor an obscure hipster band name. They somehow stumbled upon Astronaut. Among the personal meanings behind it, Astronaut just ended up sounded the coolest and most appropriate. And from then on Astronaut came to life! *Explosions*
